How To Run Electrical Service Underground Into Brick House

  • #1

I've never dealt with this situation earlier, but I'm wiring a house with a brick lesser and siding peak. The underground conduit must sew together the brick part of the wall, merely that is much too low to mount the meter base. It would have to be installed on the sided part. However, the brick ledge comes out 2" past the brick surface, and then wraps back almost five-6" to the surface to be with siding. Practice they brand 2" PVC bent conduit assemblies for this purpose? If non, how difficult would it be to curve a slice of PVC so it fits the profile of the house up to where the meter base needs to be?

This would be a lot easier for everyone, and look a lot amend, if they didn't inexpensive out and become with half brick and half siding. If this were my house, I would INSIST that they do the entire house in brick. So I could simply apply a couple of brick brackets and mount the meter base wherever I demand it.

I would think it would not be too hard to heat the 2" conduit to make whatever bend you need.

I would think it would not be also difficult to heat the ii" conduit to brand whatever bend yous demand.

OK, I've never washed that before. What kind of tool would I use, and does Home Depot deport them? Too, would the PVC demand to be schedule 80, since it's higher up grade going into the meter base?

I accept a heating blanket. I've had one forever. I'm not sure if Abode Depot sells them. Yous could also use a adept rut gun simply it will take longer.

OOOOOH! Outset off at that place should accept been some disclaimers here. You lot are only supposed to use equipment identified for the bend. I would still not hesitate to use a pilus dryer or a estrus gun, at well-nigh $20 from Harbor Freight. If y'all are going to bend, make sure you start by putting on a adept pair of leather gloves and heat a adequately long section all the mode around before bending. You accept to brand sure you don't flatten the PVC. Lastly, looking at your moving-picture show, I would tell whoever is in charge that they demand to remove the ledge portion of the brick where you need to bring up the PVC. So jsut bend back toward the wall not out effectually this function. If they decline, the stand the riser out don't get effectually that ledge. It will exist ugly and more hard.

If it okay with the home possessor and the GC, I would pedestal mountain the meter and enter the basement (if that is where the panel is going) either underground 90 up and LB in simply above the sill in between the joists or cadre the foundation directly in the basement to the panel.

Utilize a brick chisel gear up just in from the overhang distance and then your hammer blows transfer down into the lower bricks instead of levering the ledge bricks right out. Score them well, and so give each a expert wack. If you're lucky half the wall won't fall off.....

Two bricks is plenty. Next time catch the bricklayers and have them cut two bricks where you need them.

Ok thanks! I was watching the brick masons terminal weekend, but I wasn't sure what to do with the service at that time. i was concentrating on getting the rough-in finished (interior), considering the service isn't required to exist completed for a rough inspection; only on a last. I can break off a couple of bricks where the conduit goes, so mortar around it to look practiced after information technology'southward installed. I remember that would expect amend (and be easier to pull the service conductors) than the S-shaped bend without breaking the bricks. I just passed the rough inspection yesterday, and then now I can concentrate on the service while the other workers can move on with insulation, drywall, etc.

Be conscientious....bank check with the utility to brand certain they will allow what you want to practise. Some (ours) do non allow bends in the UG conduit to a higher place ground and do not let heated bends at all. As well many issues with pulling resistance, so we only quit allowing them birthday.

I curve 3" pvc on my gas grill all the time.

OK, I've never done that before. What kind of tool would I use, and does Home Depot carry them? Likewise, would the PVC demand to exist schedule 80, since it'southward higher up course going into the meter base?

I use a roof torch, there's normally no power, and i've busted all my hot boxes anyways

roof torch

and sch fourscore is a poco matter

besides, why not box information technology out in strut? you can get strut nuts and commodities one slice on peak of the other

I would call this an oversight by the GC or architect, who should have planned for installation of the service.

oh please.......most of them couldn't programme a lunch together......:) ~RJ~
